  • 1/2 cup Pepper Jack Cheese, Shredded
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
  • 1/3 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 8 slice bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 packages of frozen spinach, 10 oz., thawed and drained well

How to Make Bacon Spinach Swirls

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 18 steps you must follow to make Bacon Spinach Swirls in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Step 2
  • Beat egg and water and set aside.
  • Step 3
  • Mix shredded cheese, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, black pepper and salt. Set aside.
  • Step 4
  • Unfold pastry sheet onto lightly floured surface (That is important and it will stick, if it's not lightly floured!). I use a sheet of wax paper on the counter for easy clean up and to roll up it up (you will see what I mean further down in the directions).
  • Step 5
  • Brush pastry with egg mixture.
  • Step 6
  • Sprinkle cheese mix on pastry.
  • Step 7
  • Sprinkle Bacon on top of cheese mix.
  • Step 8
  • Sprinkle spinach on top of bacon. (I tear up tiny pieces with my fingers)
  • Step 9
  • Roll up pastry, jelly roll style. I use the wax paper to roll it up, and twist up the ends so it looks like a package.
  • Step 10
  • Put pastry roll in freezer for at least 15 minutes to firm up just a bit.
  • Step 11
  • Remove from freezer and slice. I like mine thinner so I go just under 1/2 inch. If anything falls out of the slice, when you place it on your baking sheet just stuff it back in the swirl.
  • Step 12
  • Place swirls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. (This helps with clean up, and makes the bottoms crisp up nicely).
  • Step 13
  • Brush top of swirls with egg mixture.
  • Step 14
  • Bake for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Step 15
  • Best when served warm but still tasty when served after they have cooled.
  • Step 16
  • TIPS: can use turkey bacon, or omit bacon for a meat free option. Also can add diced pimentos for contrasting color.
  • Step 17
  • I usually get 20-24 swirls out of one sheet of puff pastry, depending on how thick I cut them.
  • Step 18
  • If they are hard to cut, wrap them back up and throw them back in the freezer. They are easier to cut when partially frozen.
