  • 1 lb sardines, cleaned
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, extra virgin
  • Salt
  • fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 good pinch of greek oregano
  • 1 pinch good pinch of dried thyme
  • 4 garlic cloves, sliced
  • crushed red pepper flakes or paprika
  • 1/2 lemon, juice only

How to Make Baked Sardines

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Baked Sardines in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to about 200 c.
  • Step 2
  • Salt the sardines overnight with rock salt.
  • Step 3
  • Rinse under cold running water.
  • Step 4
  • Then layer sardines in a baking dish and season with black pepper.
  • Step 5
  • Then whisk the olive oil, oregano, thyme, garlic, red pepper flakes or paprika and lemon juice in a small bowl until well combined.
  • Step 6
  • Pour over the sardines and then let it sit for about 30 minutes so the sardines absorb the flavours.
  • Step 7
  • Then transfer the baking dish to the oven and cook for about 20 minutes. Add a splash of water to the dish if it becomes dry at any point.
  • Step 8
  • Serve immediately. Enjoy with some crusty bread.
