Ingredients: Barley Pilaf

  • 1 cup barley
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon powdered chicken stock
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 teaspoons crushed garlic
  • 60 grams shitake mushrooms
  • 4 sage leaves (1 teaspoon if dried)
  • 1/4 lime
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon soya sauce

How to Make Barley Pilaf

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 6 steps you must follow to make Barley Pilaf in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • In pot put barley, stock and water bring to boil. Allow to simmer for 25 to 30 minutes until barley tender
  • Step 2
  • Chop onion, mushrooms and sage.
  • Step 3
  • In a pan saute onions and garlic in butter, when browned add mushrooms and sage, saute till brown
  • Step 4
  • Add soya sauce and lime, stir till all brown bits removed from bottom of pan.
  • Step 5
  • Drain barley and add to mushroom mix
  • Step 6
  • Mix together and serve as a side dish
