Ingredients: Basic Mapo Tofu

  • 1 1/2 block Tofu
  • 150 grams Ground meat
  • 1/2 Finely chopped Japanese leek
  • 1 tbsp ★ Finely chopped garlic
  • 1 tbsp ★ Finely chopped ginger
  • 2 tsp ★ Doubanjiang
  • 1 tbsp ★ Tianmianjiang
  • 1 tbsp ☆ Sake
  • 1 tbsp ☆ Soy sauce
  • 200 ml ☆ Water
  • 2 tsp ☆ Chinese soup stock
  • 1 Sansho pepper powder
  • 1 and 1/2 tablespoons Katakuriko
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 2 Green onions or scallions

How to Make Basic Mapo Tofu

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 7 steps you must follow to make Basic Mapo Tofu in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Stir fry the ingredients marked with ★ and add the ground beef. When the meat changes color, add the ingredients marked with ☆ and the boiled tofu.
  • Step 2
  • Add the finely chopped Japanese leek to Step 1. Stir in the katakuriko slurry and turn off the heat. Add the sansho pepper powder and sesame oil.
  • Step 3
  • Transfer to a serving plate and scatter some chopped green onions on top.
  • Step 4

  • Step 5
