  • 1 Japanese sweet potato
  • 1/2 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 1/2 tbsp water
  • 1/4 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup of neutral tasting oil such as canola or grapeseed

How to Make Bento Daigaku Imo

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 7 steps you must follow to make Bento Daigaku Imo in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • In a small skillet over medium heat, toast the sesame seeds by constantly shaking the pan or moving them about with a spatula. When they become fragrant and a few pop, remove and set aside.
  • Step 2
  • Peel the sweet potato and cut into bite size pieces and set aside.
  • Step 3
  • In a small bowl mix together the soy sauce, honey, water, and vinegar and set aside.
  • Step 4
  • In a medium skillet or wok, heat the oil on medium high heat. Add the sweet potatoes and fry them until they are golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  • Step 5
  • Let the wok or skillet cool down. Then, add the potatoes back in and add the sauce. Simmer for about 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Toss to coat.
  • Step 6
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.
  • Step 7
