Ingredients: Brad's moussaka

  • 1 long narrow eggplant
  • 1 flour for dredging
  • 1 oil for frying
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 clove garlic minced
  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef. sirloin if u can
  • 1/2 lb sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 7 tbsp flour
  • 3 cup warm milk
  • 3 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 paprika, nutmeg, and cinnamon to taste
  • 2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs.

How to Make Brad's moussaka

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 14 steps you must follow to make Brad's moussaka in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • wash and slice.eggplant. dredge in flour and fry in very hot oil until golden brown
  • Step 2
  • drain on paper towels.
  • Step 3
  • arrange a single layer in the bottom of a greased casserole dish.
  • Step 4
  • meanwhile brown the beef and sausage in a heavy skillet.
  • Step 5
  • immediately add onion and garlic.
  • Step 6
  • when meat is brown, drain fat and add tomato sauce. season to taste with salt and pepper. add a half tsp of nutmeg and cinnamon. if your taste requires more by all means add more
  • Step 7
  • now we start the bechamel sauce. heat butter in a sauce pot. add flour, stir until you have a thick paste.
  • Step 8
  • cook out the starch for a few min until you get a slight nutty aroma.
  • Step 9
  • slowly add warm milk stirring constantly. once all milk is added, stir over med low heat until sauce becomes thick and bubbly.
  • Step 10
  • remove from heat. immediately add a cup of milk mix to beaten eggs slowly while stirring eggs. once combined slowly add back to the milk mixture stirring constantly. once combined season to taste with paprika nutmeg salt and pepper
  • Step 11
  • now back to the casserole. place a layer of meat over the eggplant. a layer of sauce over that. spread some cheese and bread crumbs.
  • Step 12
  • repeat layering until ingredients are gone. i usually get 3 layers. end with feta cheese and bread crumbs on top
  • Step 13
  • bake at 350 for 30-45 min until edges are bubbly and crumbs are browned. if crumbs aren't brown enough turn broiler on a couple minutes
  • Step 14
  • serve with tatziki sauce
