Ingredients: Broccoli Cauliflower Cheese

  • 1/2 medium broccoli
  • 1/2 medium cauliflower
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp All purpose flour
  • 300 ml milk
  • 200 grams grated hard cheese ( i used cheddar but any good melting cheese)
  • 1/2 tsp salt and pepper to taste

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 5 steps you must follow to make Broccoli Cauliflower Cheese in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • cut the broccoli and cauliflower into florets the same size. bring a pan to the boil and add the florets. reduce to a simmer and cook until just cooked (a fork goes in easily)
  • Step 2
  • drain and leave to cool in a sieve while you make the cheese sauce
  • Step 3
  • melt the butter in a pan and add the flour. mix until combined to make a roux. keep moving about the pan for a few minutes. add a splash of milk at a time and stir thoroughly until completely combined. repeat until all milk is used up
  • Step 4
  • Bring to the boil constantly stirring. It will start to thicken. take off the heat and add half the cheese. stir until melted
  • Step 5
  • put the florets into a casserole dish so there is an even layer. pour over the sauce to cover the florets and sprinkle with the rest of the cheese. place under a grill or in the oven until the cheese has melted with a bit of colour
