  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 5 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp blackened seasoning
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cup Jack cheese, shredded
  • 2 cup fontina cheese, grated
  • 1 lb elbow macaroni
  • 1 lb kielbasa or andouille thinly sliced

How to Make Cajun Mac and Cheese

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 9 steps you must follow to make Cajun Mac and Cheese in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Step 2
  • In a medium bowl, combine bread crumbs and 2 tablespoons of the melted butter. Set aside.
  • Step 3
  • Cook macaroni 3 minutes less than manufacturer's directions in a large pot. Drain and rinse under cold water.
  • Step 4
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the sausage.
  • Step 5
  • Put remaining 6 tablespoons butter in the pot used to cook pasta over medium heat. When butter bubbles, add flour, pepper, and seasoning.
  • Step 6
  • Slowly pour milk into mixture while whisking. Continue to cook until mixture becomes thick.
  • Step 7
  • Remove from heat and add 3/4 of each of the cheeses. Then add macaroni and sausage. Mix well.
  • Step 8
  • Transfer to a casserole then top with remaining cheese and breadcrumbs.
  • Step 9
  • Bake until browned on top, about 30 minutes.
