  • 1 box family size Zatarain's red beans and rice
  • 2 tbsp butter or vegetable oil
  • 2 large green bellpeppers
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 packages Polska Kielbasa OR Andoullie sausage*
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 packages Gouda cheese (or preferred cheese, Cheddar also goes well)

How to Make Cajun style red beans and rice

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 5 steps you must follow to make Cajun style red beans and rice in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Chop (dice) your bellpeppers and onion and slice sausage and set aside.
  • Step 2
  • In a large saucepan or pot add all ingredients for the red beans and rice (beans and rice, water and oil or butter).
  • Step 3
  • Add sausage, bellpeppers, onion, garlic and Cajun seasoning and cook according to package directions.
  • Step 4
  • Cut the Gouda (or preferred cheese) into small cubes and add about five minutes before cooking is complete, or in the last five minutes that it sits.
  • Step 5
  • Serve and enjoy!
