  • 2 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • dash salt
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

How to Make Caramel

    Step 1
  • Melt butter in a 3 quart saucepan
  • Step 2
  • Stirr in brown sugar and salt, until smooth
  • Step 3
  • Blend in corn syrup
  • Step 4
  • Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, stirring constantly
  • Step 5
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently to firm ball stage 248°F
  • Step 6
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla
  • Step 7
  • Pour into buttered 9x12 baking dish and let cool, cut and wrap in waxed paper
