  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)

How to Make Caramels

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Caramels in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Butter a pan, either 8x8 or larger. Note: you may choose to use wax paper instead of butter.
  • Step 2
  • Over medium heat, mix butter, sugar, and corn syrup.
  • Step 3
  • Heat to boiling stirring constantly.
  • Step 4
  • Once Boiling, let it boil for 4 minutes while stirring constantly.
  • Step 5
  • Take off burner for a moment and add the sweetened condensed milk.
  • Step 6
  • Return to medium low heat. Stir constantly until reaches soft-ball stage.
  • Step 7
  • Pour into your buttered pan to cool. Do not scrape the bottom of the pot, as that will result in crunchies.
  • Step 8
  • Let cool. After it has firmed up a bit, cut the caramels before it gets too hard.
