  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt for dough

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 large egg with tbsp water for egg wash
  • 2 tbsp shredded cheddar
  • 1/4 cup Caraway seeds

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 9 steps you must follow to make Caraway Pretzels in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Combine yeast, sugars, and 1 cup and 2 tbsp warm water. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes
  • Step 2
  • Add 2 1/2 tsp salt and the flour and mix until dough forms
  • Step 3
  • Cover dough and leave overnight at room temperature to rise
  • Step 4
  • On a floured surface divide into 12 pieces. Roll each into an 8 inch log then shape into a pretzel.
  • Step 5
  • Place pretzels on a baking sheet and let sit in a warm place to rise for 45 min
  • Step 6
  • Preheat the oven to 400
  • Step 7
  • Combine 4 cups water and the baking soda and bring to a boil. Drop pretzels in for 20 seconds then put them on a baking sheet
  • Step 8
  • Brush the pretzels with the egg wash sprinkle with cheese, Caraway seeds, and sea salt.
  • Step 9
  • Bake until golden brown, about 20 min
