  • 2 1/2 tbsp real butter
  • 1/4 small sweet yellow onion
  • 1 small clove garlic, crushed and minced
  • 1/4 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 liter whole milk
  • 2 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Cheddar cheese sauce

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 4 steps you must follow to make Cheddar cheese sauce in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Melt butter in 2 qt saucepan
  • Step 2
  • Add finely diced onion and garlic and allow to sweat.
  • Step 3
  • Stir in flour with wire whisk. Cook, on medium heat stirring frequently for about 5 minutes. It should not be thick.
  • Step 4
  • Add milk slowly. About a cup at a time. Allow to thicken slightly between additions. Once all milk is added allow to heat, not boil. Add shredded cheese while stirring. Stir until cheese is melted.
