  • 500 grams Raw chestnuts
  • 2 tbsp Sake
  • 1 tbsp Mirin
  • 1/2 tsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 480 ml Rice
  • 540 ml Water
  • 1 Sesame seeds

How to Make Chestnut Rice

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 9 steps you must follow to make Chestnut Rice in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Put the chestnuts in a bowl and pour in enough hot water to cover.
  • Step 2
  • Soaking in water makes it easier to peel, so leave them like this for a while until they cool down.
  • Step 3
  • When the shell has softened, cut away the bottom part.
  • Step 4
  • You can peel away the shell as is, but if it's too tough, use a knife to peel off the outer shell as shown in the photo.
  • Step 5
  • Put the knife into a gap and tear the shell off.
  • Step 6
  • It should look like this.
  • Step 7
  • Remove the inner skin and soak in water to remove scum.
  • Step 8
  • Put the rice, seasonings, water and chestnuts into the rice cooker in that order. Cook it on the mixed rice setting.
