Ingredients: Chile de Arbol

  • 1/2 lb Roma Tomatoes
  • 3/4 lb Tomatillos
  • 1 cup Arbol Chile's (Hot)
  • 1/2 cup Arbol Chile's (Medium)
  • 1 White Onion
  • 1/2 bunch Cilantro
  • 5 clove Garlic
  • 2 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Table Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper

How to Make Chile de Arbol

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 6 steps you must follow to make Chile de Arbol in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Peel and Wash Tomatillos
  • Step 2
  • Grill Tomatillos and Tomatoes on flat pan set to medium heat for 6-8 minutes and grill until char. Rotate them so each side gets a small char.
  • Step 3
  • Grill 15 (for medium) or 30 (for hot) Arbol Chile's and 5 garlic cloves on flat pan set to medium for 1 minute. Remember to de-stem the Chile's.
  • Step 4
  • Boil 2 cups of water in a sauce pan. Slice white onion (doesn't matter how) and add to water. Add chiles, garlic, tomatoes and tomatillos to boiled water. Cover and let cook on medium for 1-2 minutes.
  • Step 5
  • Add 1/2 bunch of cilantro to a blender. Add boiled water, onions, tomatillos, tomatoes, garlic, salt, pepper and chiles to blender. Blend until pulverized.
  • Step 6
  • Poor into bowl and refrigerate
