  • 2 cup All purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp bicarb soda
  • icing
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder, sifted
  • 4 1/2 tbsp buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 1/4 cup icing sugar, sifted

How to Make Chocolate Buttermilk Cake

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 9 steps you must follow to make Chocolate Buttermilk Cake in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Sift flour, sugar, salt and bicarb soda in a large mixing bowl.
  • Step 2
  • Heat the butter, water, oil and cocoa powder together in a small sauce pan. Bring to boil, remove from heat and cool.
  • Step 3
  • Pour cocoa mixture into the flour mixture and mix well.
  • Step 4
  • Whisk eggs and buttermilk together and add to cake mixture.
  • Step 5
  • Pour mixture into a greased 22cm pan.
  • Step 6
  • Bake at 180°C for 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean. Remove from the oven and cool in the pan for 5 minutes before turning out on a wire rack.
  • Step 7
  • ICING
  • Step 8
  • Melt the butter in a bowl in the microwave for 1 minute.
  • Step 9
  • Remove and stir in the cocoa, buttermilk, vanilla essence and icing sugar. Mix until smooth, then spread over the cake.
