Ingredients: Curried Quinoa

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups water, chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 1/2 tbsp curry powder
  • 1/2 tbsp chili powder
  • to taste salt & pepper
  • optional diced bell pepper
  • optional medium-sized sweet onion (diced)
  • optional choice of meat (diced)
  • optional clove of mined garlic

How to Make Curried Quinoa

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 5 steps you must follow to make Curried Quinoa in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • IMPORTANT: Rinse quinoa in water and drain well to eliminate bitterness in the quinoa. If pre-washed quinoa is used, skip this step.
  • Step 2
  • Add quinoa, chicken broth, curry powder and chili powder into a pot and stir well. If water is used instead of broth, add a dash of salt and pepper. Bring to a boil.
  • Step 3
  • Once it starts to boil, reduce to a simmer and cover pot. Let cook at a low heat for about 20 mins until quinoa has completely soaked up all the liquid.
  • Step 4
  • Take the quinoa off the heat and let the steam cook it further for about 10 mins. Cooked quinoa should be translucent and fluffy.
  • Step 5
  • OPTIONAL STEP: If you like, heat a tbsp of oil in a pan and stir-fry onions, garlic, bell pepper and meat-of-choice. Add in the cooked quinoa and stir-fry for another 5-7 mins. Great option to fried rice. ;)
