    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Step 2
  • For the pastry, cut the butter into the flour.
  • Step 3
  • Sprinkle with water and mix with a fork.

  • Divide in half and and pat each into a long strip (12 X 3) on an ungreased baking sheet.

  • Add the extracts and remove from heat.
  • Step 9
  • Immediately stir in the flour, stirring/whisking vigorously until smooth and thick.

  • When smooth and thick, add the eggs one at a time, beating on low with a hand mixer after each until smooth.
  • Step 11
  • Divide the mixture in half and spread evenly over each strip of pastry on the baking sheet.
  • Step 12
  • Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
  • Step 13
  • The filling will be puffy and golden, but fall a bit while it cools, especially in the center.
  • Step 14
  • Let cool a bit and frost each strip with your favorite butter cream or cream cheese frosting.
