  • 1 lb apples ( sour if possible)
  • 4 oz sultanas
  • 6 oz butter /soft margarine
  • 12 oz self raising flour
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 6 oz sugar
  • 3 eggs

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 11 steps you must follow to make Dorset Apple Cake in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Peel ,core and grate apples
  • Step 2
  • Mix flour ,ginger and butter / margarine together until it resembles crumbs
  • Step 3
  • Add sugar ,apples and sultanas.
  • Step 4
  • Beat the eggs and add to mixture.
  • Step 5
  • Mix until well combined
  • Step 6
  • Grease and line a 2 lb loaf tin , pour mixture in., level top.
  • Step 7
  • Bake at 180c for 1 hour, until a skewer / toothpick comes out clean.
  • Step 8
  • Allow to cool in tin for 10 minutes then tip out on to wire rack to cool.
  • Step 9
  • Serve. Can be served warm or cold
  • Step 10
  • You can substitute ground cinnamon for the ginger.
  • Step 11
  • I use demerara sugar, but you can use white or golden.
