  • 4 slice Flounder
  • 1 thumb Ginger (sliced)
  • 1 Japanese leek (cut the green part into 5 cm long)
  • For the sauce:
  • 100 ml Sake
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Sugar

How to Make Easy Simmered Flounder in a Frying Pan

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Easy Simmered Flounder in a Frying Pan in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • If you are using frozen flounder, place the pieces in a frying pan, and pour hot water to cover the fish to remove their fishiness. Bring to a boil, and drain the hot water immediately.
  • Step 2
  • Line the sides of the flounder with the Japanese leek and ginger.
  • Step 3
  • Pour the sauce over the flounder. Cover with a lid, and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Then, turn down the heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Step 4
  • When you open the lid, it should look like this. Simmer for about 10 minutes, uncovered, until there is not much sauce left in the pan.
  • Step 5
  • When the fish has absorbed the flavor well, it's ready! Be careful not to let the fish burn while simmering.
  • Step 6
  • Using a spatula, scoop the fish gently from the bottom, and serve onto a plate. Be gentle with the fish as it may fall apart. Garnish with ginger and Japanese leek to taste.
  • Step 7
  • Whole flounder version: Make a cross cut on the black skin with a knife. Simmer it with the white skin side facing down. Don't flip it over.
  • Step 8
  • Simmered Flounder with Roe: Same with the "whole flounder version". The roe will be cooked through properly.
