  • 200 grams all-purpose flour
  • 50 grams caster sugar
  • 50 grams butter, slightly softened
  • 75 ml milk
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • raisins
  • all-purpose flour, for dusting
  • milk, for brushing
  • 1 small egg

How to Make English Scones

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make English Scones in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Mix the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
  • Step 2
  • Rub in butter with fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Step 3
  • Add in milk and raisins (if using) and knead gently to make a rough dough.
  • Step 4
  • Turn the dough out on counter, lightly dusted with flour, and knead until smooth. Add milk if dough is too dry, and flour if otherwise.
  • Step 5
  • Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm, and cut out round shapes with a small glass or cookie cutter. You can also shape the dough with your hands.
  • Step 6
  • Brush the tops with egg and milk mixture.
  • Step 7
  • Place on cookie sheets with spaces between and bake in preheated oven at 190℃ for about 13 minutes or until slightly golden brown.
  • Step 8
  • Serve warm with honey or jam.
