  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 knob unsalted butter or a tbsp of olive oil
  • sea salt
  • 1 3/4 cup water

How to Make Fluffy White Rice

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Fluffy White Rice in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Rinse the rice in a few changes of water. Then drain well using a sieve. (Rinsing the rice in a number of different waters will remove loose starch, making the rice less sticky.)
  • Step 2
  • In a medium pot with a tight fitting lid, combine the water, the rice, salt and butter. (Tight fitting lid will keep all the steam in, if the lid is loose, put a clean kitchen towel between the pot and lid.)
  • Step 3
  • Bring to the boil over high heat.
  • Step 4
  • As soon as the water is boiling lower the heat to simmer. Cover with the lid also.
  • Step 5
  • Cook at a gentle simmer until the water is all absorbed and rice has become tender. Normally takes about 12-14 minutes. (Tip: If lifting lid to check rice, replace it as quickly as possible)
  • Step 6
  • When step 5 is done remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, undisturbed with the lid on, for a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes.
  • Step 7
  • Remove the lid, and fluff the rice gently with a fork.
  • Step 8
  • Serve immediately.
