  • 3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloved
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

How to Make Gingerbread cookies

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 12 steps you must follow to make Gingerbread cookies in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Prepare baking sheets by spraying with cooking spray or lining with parchment paper
  • Step 2
  • In small bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves until well blended.
  • Step 3
  • In a large bowl beat butter, brown sugar and egg on medium speed until well blended.
  • Step 4
  • Gradually stir in dry ingredients until blended and smooth
  • Step 5
  • Divide dough in half and wrap each half in plastic and let stand at room temperature for 2 hours
  • Step 6
  • Place one portion of dough on a lightly floured surface
  • Step 7
  • Sprinkle flour over dough and rolling pin
  • Step 8
  • Roll dough to scant 1/4 inch thick
  • Step 9
  • Cut out cookies with desired cookie cutter
  • Step 10
  • Space cookies 1 1/2 inches apart
  • Step 11
  • Bake for 7 to 10 minutes. The lower time will give softer cookies
  • Step 12
  • After cookies cool you can decorate them any way you like.
