  • 3 lb Fresh shrimp
  • 2 pints Oysters
  • 2 lb Lump crab meat
  • 2 lb Mussels
  • 4 1/2 cup Flour
  • 3 cup Veg. oil
  • 2 cup Bell peppers chopped
  • 8 cup Onions chopped
  • 3 cup Celery chopped
  • 3 tbsp Garlic chopped
  • 3 can Whole tomatoes w/ juice hand squeezed
  • 1 can Tomato sauce
  • 3 tbsp Salt
  • 3 tbsp Black pepper
  • 2 tsp Cayenne pepper
  • 1 gallon Water
  • 3/4 cup Flat leaf Italian parsley chopped
  • 1 cup Green onions

How to Make Grandpa's Seafood Gumbo

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 6 steps you must follow to make Grandpa's Seafood Gumbo in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • In an extra large stock pot, make a roux by stirring flour and oil over medium-high heat until browned peanut butter color. Note: stir often and do not burn.
  • Step 2
  • When roux is made, add onions, bell peppers, celery, and garlic. Cook, stirring, until veggies are limp, being careful not to burn.
  • Step 3
  • Add hand squeezed tomatoes and juice, tomato sauce, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Cook until well blended.
  • Step 4
  • Add water slowly, stirring to mix with roux. Cook for 50 min.
  • Step 5
  • Just before serving, bring to a light bubbling simmer, add shrimp and mussels, cook 10 mins.
  • Step 6
  • Add parsley, green onion, oysters, and crab meat, cook 5 mins. Don't overcook seafood. Serve immediately.
