  • 1 1/2 cup white corn meal

  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 cup soymilk (or milk of your choice)

How to Make Hoecakes

    Step 1
  • Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, & salt in medium bowl & mix well.
  • Step 2
  • Stir in oil. Add just enough milk to batter to make the batter the consistency of pancake batter & mix well.
  • Step 3
  • Spray skillet/griddle with cooking spray. Preheat pan over medium-high heat.
  • Step 4
  • Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto hot griddle/skillet.
  • Step 5
  • Cook until cakes are browned on both sides, about 1 to 2 minutes per side.
  • Step 6
  • Serve hot with butter & honey/syrup.
