  • ketchup
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 28 oz can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup more may be added depending to taste
  • 2 tbsp roasted garlic, recipe attached below
  • 3/4 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp molasses
  • 2 tsp salt

How to Make Homemade Ketchup

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Homemade Ketchup in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • In a preheated stock pot on low heat, add oil and onions.
  • Step 2
  • Saute until they are translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • Add all other ingredients, raise heat to medium- high, bring to boil, then reduce to simmer.
  • Step 4
  • Cover and simmer 2 hours stirring occasionally.
  • Step 5
  • Let cool and blend in food processor or blender.
  • Step 6
  • Keep in air tight container in refrigerator.
  • Step 7
  • NOTE: To make a spicier ketchup, just add a few splashes of sriracha hot sauce or finely grated horseradish!
  • Step 8
  • Keep old store bought ketchup jar, clean out and add your own homemade ketchup:-)
