  • 1 can 28 ounces, crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal, for thickening,

How to Make Homestyle Chili

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Homestyle Chili in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • drain soaked beans.
  • Step 2
  • place in 6 qt pan and cover with water, simmer until tender, about an hour
  • Step 3
  • crumble meat in skillet with onion, pepper, and garlic. brown evenly.

  • add meat, tomatoes, and seasonings to beans
  • Step 5
  • simmer another 20 minutes
  • Step 6
  • if needed, add 1/4 cup cornmeal to thicken, simmer another 15 minutes
