Ingredients: Horchata

  • 2 cup Long or extra long white rice
  • 2 cup Hot water
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 2 cup Coconut water, fresh or canned
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 3 cup Milk
  • 1 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 Ground cinnamon to sprinkle on top; optional

How to Make Horchata

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 3 steps you must follow to make Horchata in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Place the rice in a bowl, cover with hot water. Roughly crumble cinnamon stick into the rice and let it all sit and rest anywhere from 2 to 8 hours outside of the refrigerator.
  • Step 2
  • Place half of the rice mixture in the blender with the coconut water and vanilla and blend until smooth. Strain into a pitcher or container. Place the other half of the rice mixture in the blender with the milk and the sugar, blend until smooth and strain into the same pitcher.
  • Step 3
  • Stir well and serve over ice, or place in refrigerator until cold. Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top if desired.
