  • Dough
  • 1 1/3 cup Water, warm (110F)
  • 1 1/2 tsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar, Light
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 4 cup Bread Flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active-Dry Yeast
  • Coating
  • 2 tbsp Cornmeal
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • 1 pinch Italian Seasoning

How to Make Italian Bread

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 7 steps you must follow to make Italian Bread in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Place dough ingredients in bread machine, in the order listed. Select dough cycle, press Start.
  • Step 2
  • When first rise is complete, deflate dough on lightly floured surface. Form dough into two loaves.
  • Step 3
  • Place loaves seam-down on a cutting board sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover loaves in a damp cloth and let rise for 40 minutes.
  • Step 4
  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Step 5
  • Beat together egg and one tablespoon of water. Brush egg mixture over risen loaves and sprinkle with Italian Seasoning.
  • Step 6
  • Make a single, lengthwise cut down the center of each loaf and move to baking sheet.
  • Step 7
  • Bake 30-35 minutes.
