  • 1 1/2 cup Whole milk - lukewarm
  • 6 3/4 cup All purpose flour
  • 3 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp Instant yeast
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp Ground ginger
  • 1 Powdered sugar

How to Make Kahk (Egyptian Shortbread)

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 9 steps you must follow to make Kahk (Egyptian Shortbread) in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Heat butter until almost boiling.
  • Step 2
  • In a seperate bowl, add the baking powder as well as the cinnamon and ginger to the flour
  • Step 3
  • Slowly add the flour mixture into the hot butter and stir thoroughly
  • Step 4
  • Knead the dough for a while and cover and let it rest for an hour
  • Step 5
  • When the mixture cools (warm to touch) add the instant yeast to the milk with teaspoon of sugar, then stir gently into the dough.
  • Step 6
  • Shape the dough into balls then flatten them out... And at this point it's up to u how you want them to look and be shaped as! Totally your choice!
  • Step 7
  • Put them in a cookie tray and let them rest for about 5-10 mins
  • Step 8
  • Bake in preheated oven 345°F until golden it will take about 10-15 mins depending on ur oven
  • Step 9
  • Finally cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar just before eating.
