Ingredients: Lalla's Special Biryani

  • 1 kg Mutton or Chicken
  • 1 tbsp Mixed, hot Masala [Mother-in-Law]
  • 2 tsp Tumeric powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Fennel Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 2 tbsp Mix of crushed garlic and ginger
  • 5 pieces Cinnamon sticks
  • 5 Cloves
  • 5 Cardamon pods crushed
  • 1 pinch Saffron
  • 4 tbsp Vegetable oil to mix
  • 2 cup Buttermilk
  • 125 grams Butter or Margarine
  • 1 cup black or brown Lentils soaked overnight
  • 4 large Potatoes cut into 2cm cubes
  • 5 large Onions
  • 2 Soft boiled Eggs
  • 500 grams Biryani rice [Basmati]

How to Make Lalla's Special Biryani

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 7 steps you must follow to make Lalla's Special Biryani in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Overnight, mix meat with masala, tumeric, salt, fennel seeds, coriander powder, cumin powder, ginger/garlic paste, potatoes, eggs, oil and buttermilk - keep in fridge overnight
  • Step 2
  • Saute onions in butter/margarine with cinnamon, cardamon and cloves until golden brown
  • Step 3
  • Boil rice and lentils [soaked overnight] in separate pots
  • Step 4
  • When onions are golden brown add overnight mixture of meat etc into the pot containing the onions
  • Step 5
  • Mix rice, lentils and saffron and transfer into the main pot
  • Step 6
  • Bake mixture at 180°C until meat is tender.
  • Step 7
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and enjoy
