  • Syrup
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 large lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Frosting
  • 1 large Lemon zest
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 stick butter, softened
  • 5 cup powdered sugar

In a separate bowl whisk remaining buttermilk with whites. Then gradually add to batter. Pour into pans equally & bake for 30 minutes.

  • Syrup: While cakes are cooling mix water, juice and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and continue to boil, reducing down until it appears thick and reduced in volume. . While cakes are still warm brush hot syrup over cakes then let cool completely.
  • Step 5
  • Frosting: Combine all ingredients into a food processor and pulse until well combined.
  • Step 6
  • Assemble cakes. Leave the cakes whole and frost them so you have two cakes or divide the cakes so you have four equal layers and stack them.
