  • 1/2 cup Luke warm water
  • 2 tbsp white sugar

  • 2 cup onion
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 poppy seeds on top if desired

    Step 1
  • saute onion on low to med heat. with 2 tablespoons butter until caramelized, 15-20 min and set aside
  • Step 2
  • stir together luke warm water, sugar, salt and yeast let it "bloom" (let yeast work, it will become a bit foamy, and be very fragrant)
  • Step 3
  • wait about 5 mins
  • Step 4
  • add egg, flour, and milk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • Step 5
  • mix together, stir for 3 mins
  • Step 6
  • add in onions
  • Step 7
  • stir in a additional 1 1/2 - 2 cups of flour to make dough stiff
  • Step 8
  • place dough on well floured surface
  • Step 9
  • lightly knead, until no longer sticky, may need a bit more flour
  • Step 10
  • divide into 8 parts
  • Step 11
  • shape into flat buns; place on greased cookie sheet
  • Step 12
  • cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until very light or doubled in size 45-60 mins
  • Step 13
  • bake at 375 for 12-15 mins or until golden brown
