  • 180 grams Shiro-an (sweet white bean paste)
  • 40 grams Jam
  • For the Dough:
  • 100 grams Cake flour
  • 1 Whole egg
  • 30 grams Powdered sugar
  • 10 grams Unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp + 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda + water
  • 1 for dusting ◎ Cake flour
  • For egg wash:
  • 1/2 Egg
  • 1 tsp Mirin
  • For the topping:
  • 1 Poppy seeds

How to Make Pineapple-An Manju

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 18 steps you must follow to make Pineapple-An Manju in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Divide the shiro-an for "pineapple-an" into 12 equal portions.
  • Step 2
  • Roll each of them up.
  • Step 3
  • You are going to wrap about 1/2 of teaspoon of the jam in the shiro-an.

  • Flatten the shiro-an balls into circles. Dent the center with your finger and place the jam on top.

  • Dust some cake flour in a shallow container. Place the dough in it and divide it into 2 pieces.

  • Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll the dough which is about the softness of your earlobe into a circle. (If it is wrinkly, pat it with your hand to spread it.)
  • Step 13
  • Wrap the shiro-an with the dough by gathering its edges.
  • Step 14
  • Place each dough seam-side down.
  • Step 15
  • Apply the egg wash.
  • Step 16
  • Top them with the poppy seeds.
  • Step 17
  • Bake them in the oven at 180℃ for 15 minutes and they are done.
