  • for the cake
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp caramel essence
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3 tbsp apricot jam
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • for the sauce
  • 2 can evaporated milk
  • 2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

How to Make Poor-mans pudding (aramans/malva pudding)

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 7 steps you must follow to make Poor-mans pudding (aramans/malva pudding) in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • preheat oven to 180°F. Celsius
  • Step 2
  • Sieve flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together in a medium mixing bowl
  • Step 3
  • add the milk, baking soda, jam, butter and caramel essence and mix with an electric mixer on medium speed until completely blended
  • Step 4
  • pour mix into a baking tray(35 by 20cm) and bake for 25minutes.
  • Step 5
  • while cake is baking make the sauce. mix evaporated milk, vanilla essence and sugar in a pan and heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Step 6
  • once the cake is done, pour the sauce over the cake a little at a time and allow the cake to soak it up. I only ever use half the sauce and it is nice and moist, but you can use more if you like
  • Step 7
  • serve warm with custard and cream
