Ingredients: Pumpkin Compote

  • 1 kg pumpkin, peeled and cut into pieces.
  • 700 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick, (I added 2 sticks)
  • 1 tsp Orange peel, grated
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

How to Make Pumpkin Compote

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Pumpkin Compote in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Cook the pumpkin in water for around 30 to 40 minutes. You want it soft enough to be able to mash it.
  • Step 2
  • When cooked drain the pumpkin in a sieve for a good while. Then mash well making sure there is no lumps.
  • Step 3
  • Add the mashed pumpkin back into the sieve. The pumpkin will hold a lot of water so you want to lose as much of that water as possible. I used a good amount of kitchen roll to squeeze some of the water out of the pumpkin.
  • Step 4
  • On a medium to low heat, In the same pan used to boil the pumpkin, add all the above ingredients including the mashed pumpkin.
  • Step 5
  • Simmer for about 20-25 minutes. Stirring regularly ensuring it's not sticking to the bottom.
  • Step 6
  • When it's cooked through remove the cinnamon sticks
  • Step 7
  • Transfer the compote to a sterilised glass jar, leave the lid off until its completely cooled off.
  • Step 8
  • Seal and store upto 1 month in a cool dry place.
