  • Dry Ingredients
  • 7 1/2 cup Self-raising flour
  • 1 cup Bran
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Sunflower Seeds
  • 1 cup Chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, etc.)
  • 1 cup Dried Fruit (cranberry, raisins)
  • Non-Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 stick Butter
  • 2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Olive Oil
  • 2 cup Buttermilk

How to Make Rusks

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 8 steps you must follow to make Rusks in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Step 2
  • Add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients.
  • Step 3
  • Melt the rest of the non-dry ingredients over low heat.
  • Step 4
  • When sugar is melted, cool mixture slightly and add to mixing bowl. Mix well and knead, if necessary.
  • Step 5
  • Press mixture into 2 bread pans.
  • Step 6
  • Bake at 355°F for 1 hour. If it's not quite done yet, cover loosely with foil and put back in oven for a while.
  • Step 7
  • Cut into strips and lay them on cookie sheets to dry out in oven at 170°F for a few hours (flip once).
  • Step 8
  • Store in airtight containers.
