  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 can canellini beans (great white northern)
  • 2 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 bunch Italian parsley, chopped
  • 2 tbsp garlic salt
  • 3 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oregano
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 polenta, I use Bob's Red Mill
  • 1 fresh grated Parmesan
  • 1 cup Parmesan, grated

How to Make Rustic Italian Pie

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 9 steps you must follow to make Rustic Italian Pie in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Make polenta per package instructions.
  • Step 2
  • While polenta is being prepared, brown hamburger and Italian sausage with onion and garlic in a large pot or Dutch oven.
  • Step 3
  • Drain excess fat from meat mixture.
  • Step 4
  • Add beans and mix well. Then add both cans of diced tomatoes. I use the basil, oregano, and garlic kind. Heat thoroughly.
  • Step 5
  • Add tomato paste and seasonings (you can use whatever amount and kind you prefer. I estimated my amounts, as I season and taste constantly until I reach the flavor I like).
  • Step 6
  • Once polenta is nearly done add grated Parmesan cheese to mixture and mix well.
  • Step 7
  • Pour meat mixture in casserole dish and pour polenta over that, making sure to completely cover meat mixture.
  • Step 8
  • Place in 365 preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until polenta is nicely baked.
  • Step 9
  • Serve in bowls with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
