  • 300-400 g Pumpkin
  • 200 ml Water *
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar *
  • 2 Tbsp Soy sauce *
  • 2 Tbsp Mirin * (If no Mirin, substitute 2 Tbsp White wine and 1 tsp Honey)
  • 1 pinch Salt *
  • Small amount of Butter

How to Make Simmered Pumpkin

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 6 steps you must follow to make Simmered Pumpkin in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Scoop out the seeds and cut pumpkin to bite size.
  • Step 2
  • Partially peel the skin. (leave some of the green skin for contrast)
  • Step 3
  • Cut off the corners to prevent it from crumbling. This is called "mentori".
  • Step 4
  • Boil the * ingredients in a pan and put pumpkin in it. (skin side down)
  • Step 5
  • Cook pumpkin with a lid until tender with medium heat.
  • Step 6
  • Put butter and turn off the heat.
