Ingredients: Simple ham & cheese takoyaki

  • 1 cup takoyaki flour or plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp dashi powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp Japanese soy sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • Fillings and toppings:
  • 2 slices Ham (cut into small pieces)
  • 2 slices cheese (break into small pieces)
  • 1 handful dried mackerel/katsuobushi flakes
  • to taste Japanese mayonnaise
  • to taste tonkatsu sauce

How to Make Simple ham & cheese takoyaki

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 4 steps you must follow to make Simple ham & cheese takoyaki in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • To make takoyaki batter, combine all ingredients to make a thin watery batter. If batter is too thick, add a little more water.
  • Step 2
  • Heat & lightly grease the hotplate of a takoyaki maker. Pour over the batter to fill all the holes and surrounds.
  • Step 3
  • Scatter over the ham & cheese. With a skewer, gather the excess batter into each holes & start to flip each balls repeatedly and cook for 10 mins or until it forms a crisp outside but still soft in the centre.
  • Step 4
  • Remove the takoyaki from hotplate and top with Japanese mayonnaise, tonkatsu sauce and dried flakes.
