  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 8 medium brown mushrooms
  • 2 bunches chard
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1 tbsp stone ground mustard
  • 1 tbsp bubbies horseradish
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 pinches salt
  • 2 pinches pepper

How to Make Smothered Chard

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 7 steps you must follow to make Smothered Chard in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Slice the onion however you like. For this dish I recommend a fine rainbow cut.
  • Step 2
  • Wash and quarter the mushrooms, first nipping the tips off the drier stems.
  • Step 3
  • Warm some oil in a large sautee pan.
  • Step 4
  • Add onion and cook over medium low, stirring occasionally, until translucent.
  • Step 5
  • Wash the greens and remove the stems.
  • Step 6
  • Add mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes.
  • Step 7
  • Toss in the chard and add the remaining ingredients. Cook until the greens wilt down, just a few minutes, then serve.
