  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 tbs butter
  • 2 tbs brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup crasins (2.5 oz)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

How to Make Steel Cut Oats

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 5 steps you must follow to make Steel Cut Oats in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Sautee oats in butter for approximately 4 minutes.
  • Step 2
  • Add cold water and salt, bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for 30 minutes.
  • Step 3
  • After 15 minutes, add sugar, cinnamon, and crasins; continue to stir periodically.
  • Step 4
  • When simmer is complete, add warm milk and cook on low for 5 more minutes.
  • Step 5
  • Serve to taste (it's fine for me, but the kids want a little more sugar and butter, and they're skinny enough I don't care, because I did too!).
