  • Meatballs
  • 1 1/2 lb ground meat
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Sauce
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, chopped
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 4 cup beef broth (low sodium)
  • to taste salt & pepper
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream

How to Make Swedish Meatballs

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 11 steps you must follow to make Swedish Meatballs in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Set aside.
  • Step 2
  • In a large skillet, heat 1 tspn of vegetable oil, sauteé onions. When just starting to turn soft, add garlic. Remove from heat when everything is transparent. Set aside.
  • Step 3
  • In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Do not overmix. Make 1oz. size balls, yields about 25-30 balls.
  • Step 4
  • In same skillet as used before, heat 2 tbspn of butter/oil over medium heat. Cook meatballs on all sides and thru.
  • Step 5
  • Transfer meatballs to towels to suck up extra oils and keep warm.
  • Step 6
  • For the sauce, in same skillet, sautée onions, mushrooms, and garlic until soft and transparent.
  • Step 7
  • Add 2 tablespoon of butter and melt. Add flour and whisk together. Cook till brown (2-3minutes).
  • Step 8
  • Slowly add beef broth, constantly stirring to ensure no clumps.
  • Step 9
  • Add cream, mix and bring to simmer until desired consistency. The longer you simmer, the thicker it gets. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Step 10
  • Add meatballs to sauce pan and heat thoroughly.
  • Step 11
  • Serve over egg noodles, spaghetti, rice, or alone.
