  • 2 cup regular bread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 can beef broth (12 oz)
  • 1 cup heavy cream

How to Make Sweedish Meatballs

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 11 steps you must follow to make Sweedish Meatballs in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Combine onion, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and milk in a large mixing bowl. Allow a few minutes for bread crumbs to soak up milk.
  • Step 2
  • Add ground beef to mixture. Mix well using your hands.
  • Step 3
  • In a large skillet, heat oil and melt butter.
  • Step 4
  • Form mixture into 1" or 1 1/2" balls. Add to skillet and cook until browned on all sides
  • Step 5
  • Remove balls with slotted spoon and place in a 9 x 14 deep baking dish. Set aside for now.
  • Step 6
  • Add cornstarch to your skillet and mix with existing pan drippings until bubbly.
  • Step 7
  • Add beef broth and heavy cream. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens and boils for a minute or so.
  • Step 8
  • Remove sauce from heat and poor over meatballs in baking dish.
  • Step 9
  • Place in oven and bake at 325°F for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Step 10
  • Serve over egg noodles.
  • Step 11
  • (Optional) you can add noodles directly to baking dish when you remove from oven. The noodles soak up the sauce nicely.
