Ingredients: Tomato Chutney

  • 10 large tomatoes
  • 2 large onions
  • 4 green chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder(optional)
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder(optional)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp black mustard seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt(u may reduce or increase according to ur taste)
  • 2 tsp chopped coriander

How to Make Tomato Chutney

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 11 steps you must follow to make Tomato Chutney in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Finely chop the onions and the green chillies and set aside
  • Step 2
  • Thoroughly wash the tomatoes. Cut the tops and dice all the tomatoes and set aside
  • Step 3
  • In a wok(or a kadhai) or a saucepan add the oil and heat it
  • Step 4
  • Once the oil is hot add the cumin and mustard seeds
  • Step 5
  • When the seeds start crackling add the green chillies(be careful it flies everywhere) and the chopped onions
  • Step 6
  • Saute them till the onions start changing colour. Add all the spices and the salt
  • Step 7
  • Mix the spices with the onion and let it cook for 1 min. Then add the tomatoes and the sugar
  • Step 8
  • Cook the tomatoes on medium-high heat till the break down completely and lose all their liquid(takes abt 15 min) stir occasionaly
  • Step 9
  • Dont worry if it burns a little at the bottom of the pan it'll taste better
  • Step 10
  • check the seasoning, and add more sugar if it feels tart and cook for another min
  • Step 11
  • Add the garam masala and the coriander and mix and serve
