  • 4 firm, peeled pears
  • 750 ml red grape juice
  • 60 grams caster sugar
  • 1/4 tsp mixed spice / pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 zest of 1/2 an orange
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract or paste

  • Put the grape juice in a small but deep pan with the sugar, mixed spice, vanilla & orange zest and heat gently until the sugar dissolves
  • Step 2
  • Put the pears in the pan. They should be covered by the juice. Bring to the boil then simmer for 25 mins or until soft
  • Step 3
  • Put the pears to the side and keep warm. Bring the juice to a rapid boil until it has reduced by half and turned syrupy
  • Step 4
