  • 1 box devils food cake
  • Filling
  • 5 tbsp all puurpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shortning
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

How to Make Whoopie Pies

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 9 steps you must follow to make Whoopie Pies in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • To make the cakes: Prepare mix as directed on package except using only 3/4 cup of water. Drop batter onto greased cookie sheet (or use parchment paper to line pan) in 2 1/2 to 3 inch circles. Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool.

  • For filling:

  • In a saucepan,combine flour and milk and cook over medium heat,stirring constantly until it forms a thick paste.

  • Let it cool.
  • Step 5
  • In a medium bowl, beat the sugar and shortning until fluffy.
  • Step 6
  • Add vanilla.
  • Step 7
  • Add cooled flour mixture beat until double in volume.
  • Step 8
  • Turn the little cakes on their backs. Spoon a dollop of filling onto half of the little cakes.Place the other half of the cakes on top of the filling to form sandwiches.
  • Step 9
  • I have been told if they set in refrigerator a day or two they are better, Good luck with that! lol
