  • dough
  • 1 1/3 cup low fat milk, warmed to 100 degrees
  • 1 packages rapid rise yeast
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 3 3/4 cup bread flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 1/4 tbsp salted butter, room temperature
  • 1 egg white reserved from yolk

How to Make Zopf/ Swedish bread

If you have prepared the ingredients needed, now time to start cooking. There are 10 steps you must follow to make Zopf/ Swedish bread in your home by yourself.

    Step 1
  • Dissolve yeast in warm milk and sugar in small bowl. Proof several minutes.
  • Step 2
  • In a large mixing bowl with dough hook attachment add egg yolk, butter, and flour, proofed yeast in milk.
  • Step 3
  • Blend on low for 2 minutes.
  • Step 4
  • Continue to beat on low speed for 6 minutes. This simulates kneading.
  • Step 5
  • On lightly floured surface , divide the dough into three equal pieces.
  • Step 6
  • Roll each section into a 16" rope.
  • Step 7
  • Braid pieces together and place on greased cooking tray.
  • Step 8
  • Cover with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for 1 hour. It should double in size. It is important at this step to keep dough in a warm area.
  • Step 9
  • Now preheat oven to 425°F. Beat egg white and brush over dough. Bake 20-25minutes or until a lovely golden brown.
  • Step 10
  • Enjoy this bread warm out off the oven!
